All is fair in love and war… until the feds find out. 62-year-old Colombo crime family capo Joseph Amato, who used a GPS tracker to keep tabs on his girlfriend, found that out when he showed up in court via videoconference on Monday to plead guilty to racketeering and stalking charges.

When the girlfriend found the tracker that her boyfriend used to keep an eye on her movements, she placed it under a bus. When a mechanic found it, he warned authorities, who worried a terrorist plot might be afoot and began a thorough investigation. It led to the downfall of Amato and a bunch of Colombo family mobsters, including Amato’s son, who were involved in extortion and loansharking.

Father and son Amato both pleaded guilty yesterday, the New York Post reported. Regarding the GPS tracker, Amato Sr. told the judge: “I knew it would reasonable and emotion distress to her.”

The Colombo family captain faces 5 to 7 years behind bars as part of his plea agreement. His son faces a maximum of around 2 years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for July 20.
