Amsterdam's Hells Angels Leave Their Home

Today was an emotional day for members of the Amsterdam chapter of the Dutch Hells Angels. Labeled by both people in law enforcement and the media as the most powerful Hells Angels chapter in Europe, they saw their beloved club house torn down by workers. The city of Amsterdam will now start building a residential area on what, for 37 years, was considered holy ground by the Dutch Hells Angels.

The Hells Angels received €400,000 euros as a result of their move (and after a court ruling went their way) and are now looking for a new place to settle down. The mayor of Amsterdam, Eberhard van der Laan, has made it clear he will do everything in his power to stop the motorcycle club from finding a new spot in his city. The municipal council of the city Diemen, which is close to Amsterdam, has already told the motorcycle club they are not welcome there either.

While the biker club continues searching for a new home, its president Daniel “Unu” Uneputty has stepped down from his position as leader. He wants to focus on his family and his tattoo parlor. His successor will be made public at a later time.

The past few years Dutch authorities have been cracking down on outlaw motorcycle gangs. Investigations into criminals with ties to or membership in a motorcycle club have been stepped up. The Hells Angels saw their vice president Harrie Stoeltie charged with extorting drug dealers and money laundering. He is currently awaiting trial. All in all, 2011 was a rough year for the club. And the start of 2012 seems to signal an uncertain period for all of its loyal members.

For those that never had the chance to see the now destroyed club house or those that did but simply want to reminisce: Enjoy these photos Gangsters Inc. made in 2009 during a visit of “Angel Place”.
