WATCH: Series The Offer depicts how Hollywood took on the New York Mafia to make The Godfather

By David Amoruso for Gangsters Inc.

The production of movie classic The Godfather was one riddled with problems, threats, and an offer that couldn’t be refused. The new Paramount+ series The Offer depicts this volatile ride from start to finish as producers had to battle the New York Mafia to get their beloved film on the big screen.

The story is told from the viewpoint of producer Albert S. Ruddy (played by Miles Teller) as he sits with Paramount Studios bigwig Robert Evans (played by Matthew Goode), listens to director Francis Ford Coppola (Dan Fogler) and needs balls of steel as he deals with New York Mafia boss Joseph Colombo (played by Giovanni Ribisi) as he tries to get The Godfather made, literally.

“What is our opening line?” Coppola asks rhetorically in the film. “‘I believe in America.’”

The Offer premieres April 28 on Paramount+ and then appears every Thursday.
