U.S. Marshals arrest over 84,000 fugitives in 2021

By Gangsters Inc. Editors

Consider it a job well done. The U.S. Marshals Service arrested 84,247 fugitives (27,399 on federal and 56,848 on state and local warrants) in 2021. On average, the agency arrested 337 fugitives per day (based on 250 operational days), including 6,240 gang members, 1,002 Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces Program fugitives wanted for drug trafficking and money laundering.

Additionally, the U.S. Marshals seized 7,028 guns during numerous violence reduction and counter gang operations last year. Gangsters Inc. sat down with U.S. Marshal Mike Pizzi to talk about his long and distinguished career. He discusses several fugitive mobsters he apprehended. Among them Alphonse “Allie Boy” Persico, the brother of Colombo family boss Carmine “The Snake” Persico. It took Pizzi and his fellow US Marshals seven years to catch him, but catch him they did. “Outstanding”

“The outstanding work this year by the U.S. Marshals Service exemplifies that the Department of Justice has no higher priority than keeping our communities safe,” said Deputy Attorney General Lisa O. Monaco. “At a time of unprecedented challenges posed by a global pandemic, the U.S. Marshals continue to deliver on their mission, tracking down and arresting more than 84,000 fugitives. The Department of Justice, through our law enforcement components like the U.S. Marshals Service, will continue to prioritize our efforts to reduce violent crime and keep our neighborhoods safe.”

Role of U.S. Marshals Service

The U.S. Marshals Service has a long history of providing assistance and expertise to other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies in support of their fugitive investigations. The U.S. Marshals Service leads 56 fugitive task forces (representing more than 1,500 law enforcement agencies) throughout the United States and eight congressionally-funded regional fugitive task forces. Staffed by federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, U.S. Marshals Service-led task forces target the most dangerous fugitives.
