A massive drug trafficking investigation tied to the Ghostface Gangsters street gang that includes allegations of multiple deaths from illegal drug overdoses resulted in the indictment of 76 individuals Georgia police announced on Wednesday.

Operation Ghost Busted charges 76 defendants with involvement in a drug trafficking conspiracy that distributed large amounts of methamphetamine, fentanyl, heroin, and alprazolam in the greater Glynn County area in Georgia.

Investigation

For over two years, members of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces, led by the FBI Coastal Georgia Violent Gang Task Force, the Glynn County Police Department, the Brunswick Police Department, the Glynn County Sheriff's Office, and the Camden County Sheriff's Office, collaborated to identify a sprawling drug trafficking network operating in south Georgia counties including Glynn, Pierce, Camden, Wayne, Treutlen, McIntosh, Toombs, Telfair, Dodge, and Ware.

The conspiracy operated inside and outside state prison facilities with assistance from at least one compromised corrections officer, who worked with a leader of the conspiracy who is serving a life sentence for murder. The conspiracy includes members of the Ghostface Gangsters street gang, along with affiliates of the Aryan Brotherhood, Bloods, and Gangster Disciples.

If convicted, the primary conspiracy charge in the indictment carries a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, and up to life. It should be noted that there is no parole in the federal system. In addition to the primary conspiracy charge naming all 76 defendants, the indictment charges two of the defendants with distribution of illegal drugs – fentanyl and methamphetamine – that resulted in the deaths of three individuals from drug overdoses.

The 118-count, 133-page indictment – believed to be the largest ever in the Southern District of Georgia – includes the forfeiture of 43 seized firearms, one vehicle, and more than $53,000 in cash. More than three dozen additional defendants face prosecution for state charges as a result of the investigation.

A violent enforcer for the Aryan Circle white supremacy prison gang was sentenced on Thursday to life in prison. 39-year-old Jesse Paul “JP” Blankenship had been convicted at trial on November 16, 2021, of racketeering conspiracy, kidnapping in aid of racketeering, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping in aid of racketeering.

Aryan Circle is a race-based prison gang with hundreds of members operating throughout the country, both inside and outside of prisons. The gang enforces its rules and promotes discipline among its members, prospects, and associates through threats, intimidation, assaults, and murder.

“Put in work”

Blankenship was one of the group’s enforcers who made sure folks stayed in line. Between 2010 and 2021, Blankenship “put in work” by committing violence on behalf of the gang. This included shooting at two victims inside their home and participating in a kidnapping and removal of another member’s patch, or gang tattoo, by burning it from the victim’s skin using a metal rod heated with a blowtorch.

After committing these crimes, Blankenship moved up in rank in Aryan Circle and has since allegedly ordered additional acts of violence as one of the gang’s leaders.

Three founders and 22 members and associates of the Ghostface Gangsters prison gang pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy, drug and gun charges. Founded around 2000 in a Georgia county jail, the Ghostface Gangsters expanded beyond Georgia prison walls.

The whites-only gang has seven founding members, known as “pillars.” All Ghostface Gangsters gang members trace their gang “bloodline” directly back to one of the pillars. Members and associates engaged in drug distribution and acts of violence involving murder, kidnapping, assault, and witness intimidation. Ghostface Gangsters gang operated both within and outside the Georgia prison system.

“Pillars” or founding fathers

Within the past year, three Ghostface Gangsters gang pillars charged in the case have been convicted and will be, or have been, sentenced. They are:

On August 25, 2022, Jeffrey Alan Bourassa, a/k/a “JB,” “Babyface,” and “Kid,” 40, of Cobb County, Georgia, a Ghostface Gangsters gang founding pillar, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit racketeering. He is scheduled to be sentenced on October 25, 2022.

On July 22, 2021, David Gene Powell, a/k/a “Davo,” 45, of Cobb County, Georgia, a Ghostface Gangsters gang pillar, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit racketeering. On February 23, 2022, Powell was sentenced to four years, one month of imprisonment.

On June 9, 2021, Joseph M. Propps, Jr., a/k/a “JP,” 44, of Smyrna, Georgia, a Ghostface Gangsters gang pillar, pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute at least 500 grams of methamphetamine. On October 5, 2021, Propps was sentenced to 10 years, one month of imprisonment.

Earlier during the case, the following Ghostface Gangsters pleaded guilty:

On September 22, 2021, Victor Manuel DeJesus, a/k/a/ “VG Vic,” 40, of Gwinnett County, Georgia, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit racketeering and using a firearm during a crime of violence. The latter charge arose from a 2016 incident during which DeJesus violently carjacked a woman at gunpoint and threatened to kill her. He took the car and picked up co-defendant Christopher Marlow, a/k/a “Loco,” 43, of Marietta, Georgia. Together, they fled from a Cobb County deputy sheriff. DeJesus shot at the deputy from inside the car and discarded the gun through a window. DeJesus was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment in connection with the shooting and his role in the RICO Conspiracy. Marlow was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment for attempted murder and aiding and abetting DeJesus’s discharge of a firearm.

On August 24, 2021, Richard Brian Sosebee, a/k/a “Dirty,” 47, of Hall County, Georgia, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit racketeering and using a firearm during a drug trafficking crime. The latter charge arose from a 2016 incident during which Sosebee shot a victim in the eye during a drug deal gone bad, causing the victim permanent injury. He was sentenced to 22 years of imprisonment on December 7, 2021.

On July 22, 2021, Jennifer Barteski, 37, of Conyers, Georgia, a GFG associate, pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of that crime. She was sentenced on November 18, 2021, to seven years in prison.

Between February 19, 2019 and April 26, 2021, Cody Ryan Todd, 32, of Carroll County, Georgia, Timothy Wilkins, a/k/a “Dino,” 36, of Woodstock, Georgia, Jonathan Stubbs, 33, of Hamilton County, Tennessee, William J. Goodman, 28, of Paulding County, Georgia, Brie Dewitt, 45, of Woodstock, Georgia, Toby James Ogletree, 47, of Spalding County, Georgia, and Kevin Scott Sosebee, a/k/a “Sosa,” 31, of Cobb County, Georgia, pleaded guilty to RICO conspiracy. Ogletree also pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances. Sosebee, who was sentenced to 24 years of imprisonment, also pleaded guilty to discharging a firearm in connection with a 2017 incident during which he shot four times at a Cobb County police officer. The officer was pursuing Sosebee from inside a police vehicle, swerved to avoid the bullets, and avoided injury.

Between August 10, 2018 and March 5, 2020, GFG members Mark Avon Lefevre, a/k/a “Ghost,” 37, of Cobb County, Georgia, Christopher Lasher, a/k/a “Retta,” 39, of Marietta, Georgia, Christopher Steven Jones, a/k/a “Red,” 39, of Canton, Georgia, Samantha Miller, 31, of Cobb County, Georgia, Genevieve Waits, 40, of Cleveland, Ohio, Kayli Brewer, 31, of Cobb County, Georgia, Brittany Nicole Jones, 35, of Rockdale County, Georgia, and Hailey Sizemore, 32, of Douglas County, Georgia, pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, including methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana, and Xanax.

On December 5, 2019, Christopher Jarman Davis, 32, of Walker County, Georgia pleaded guilty to maiming another GFG member. While co-defendant Jonathan Stubbs held the other gang member at gunpoint, Davis used an axe to slice a GFG tattoo off that other gang member’s chest as a punishment for violating gang rules.

On October 4, 2018, Randall Arthur Lee Chumley, 40, of Jasper, Georgia pleaded guilty to possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and was sentenced on December 10, 2020, to 160 months of imprisonment.

On April 20, 2018, Kelly Ray Shiflett, 34, of Rome, Georgia pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Behind bars inmates follow a different set of laws. Specifically, the law laid down by the gang they belong to. Whatever the gang’s shot callers want, its members do. If not, things get real violent real quick.

52-year-old Mitchell “Lifter” Farkas of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, lives by this code. Housed at the federal prison U.S. Penitentiary (USP) Big Sandy in Martin County, Kentucky, he is a member of the Aryan Circle gang.

Aryan Circle thrives on violence

The Aryan Circle is a violent, white-supremacist, prison gang with hundreds of members operating throughout the country, both inside and outside of prisons. It was established in the mid-1980s within the Texas prison system. Its structure and influence expanded to rural and suburban areas throughout Texas, Louisiana, and Missouri.

The gang emerged as an independent group during a period of turmoil within the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas. It was relatively small in comparison to other prison-based gangs, but grew in stature and influence in the 1990s, largely through the use of violence.

Especially if the shot callers believe gang rules had been broken. Like had allegedly happened at USP Big Sandy. Farkas was ordered to shank another inmate for exactly this reason. He and Johnathan Gober went to work and stabbed the man for violating the rules of the Aryan Circle.

A federal jury in the Eastern District of Kentucky convicted Farkas on Wednesday, August 10, for his attempted murder at the direction of the Aryan Circle gang. He is scheduled to be sentenced on December 5 and faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.

Gober was sentenced on December 21, 2021, to 10 years in prison.

Two associates of the New Aryan Empire, a white supremacist gang, were sentenced on Tuesday. 46-year-old Carey Mooney got 18 and a half years for her role in a kidnapping and assault on behalf of the gang, while 39-year-old Michael J. Roberts got almost 10 years for his involvement in a methamphetamine conspiracy.

The pair got busted thanks to an investigation that began in 2016, when local and federal agencies initiated a joint investigation to identify, infiltrate, and dismantle drug trafficking organizations in Russellville, Arkansas. Agents identified multiple individuals who were trafficking methamphetamine in the Pope County area and were closely associated with the New Aryan Empire, a white supremacist organization that began as a prison gang and eventually expanded outside penitentiary walls.

Trafficking meth and cash for shot callers

Among them Roberts, who distributed methamphetamine for New Aryan Empire shot callers. In November 2016, authorities intercepted a package Roberts sent to California containing over $40,000 in cash. He sent another package in January 2017 that contained $24,000 in cash.

Roberts received five-pound shipments of methamphetamine every week for three months and later increased to ten-pound shipments of methamphetamine every week for one month, and the cash was payment for some of those shipments. In total, Roberts facilitated the distribution of approximately 100 pounds of methamphetamine.

Mooney and Roberts were charged on September 3, 2019, in a federal indictment that charged more than 50 people from the Pope County area with racketeering and numerous gun and drug violations. The investigation is named “To The Dirt,” a reference to the New Aryan Empire slogan referring to the rule that members must remain in the gang until they die.

The charges allege acts involving attempted murder, kidnapping, maiming, and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine. Of the 55 total defendants charged in “Operation ‘To The Dirt,’” 53 defendants have pleaded guilty, 1 defendant was found guilty at trial, and 27 of those defendants have already been sentenced to prison terms.

Five members and associates, including a Hells Angel biker, of a violent white supremacist gang called the 1488s were convicted on Monday in Alaska on various racketeering and murder charges. The 1488s are a prison gang operating inside and outside of state prisons throughout Alaska.

The 1488s use Nazi-derived symbols to identify themselves and their affiliation with the gang, including a 1488 “patch” tattoo which depicts an Iron Cross superimposed over a swastika. The tattoo can only be worn by “made” members who generally gained full membership by committing acts of violence on behalf of the gang. The gang has written rules and a code of conduct, including the creed that “the only currency we recognize is violence and unquestionable loyalty.”

45-year-old Timothy Lobdell, who now goes by the name “Filthy Fuhrer”, founded and led the 1488 gang from inside Alaska’s maximum-security prison, where he is serving a 19-year sentence for the attempted murder of an Alaska State Trooper.

Trying to impose greater organization and structure with non-incarcerated members, Fuhrer believed that some members were defying the 1488 code of conduct and diminishing the power and influence of the gang.

Fuhrer sent out a trusted lieutenant with a list of directives, these directives culminated in the kidnapping and assault of two low-level gang members on April 2, 2017, and July 20, 2017, and the kidnapping, assault, and murder of Michael Staton (right) on Aug. 3, 2017.

According to evidence presented at trial, 1488 members Roy “Thumper” Naughton, Glen “Glen Dog” Baldwin, and Colter O’Dell worked with 56-year-old Hells Angels biker Craig “Oakie” King to kidnap and murder one of the victims, who had previously stolen from both King and the 1488s.

King lined a room with plastic, where he and the 1488 defendants beat and tortured the victim. Baldwin and O’Dell then took the victim out to the woods, shot him, and burned his body. O’Dell earned his membership patch into the 1488s by committing the murder of Staton.

Verdicts

Fuhrer was convicted of racketeering conspiracy, conspiracy in aid of racketeering, murder in aid of racketeering, kidnapping resulting in death, three counts of kidnapping conspiracy, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of assault in aid of racketeering.

Naughton was convicted of racketeering conspiracy, conspiracy in aid of racketeering, murder in aid of racketeering, kidnapping resulting in death, three counts of kidnapping conspiracy, two counts of kidnapping and two counts of assault in aid of racketeering.

A member of Killer Kracker Pride, a white supremacist gang that is sometimes affiliated with the Ghost Face Gangsters, pleaded guilty to illegally possessing a firearm last week. 32-year-old Joel Nelson Tucker of Moultrie, Georgia, faces a maximum of 10 years in prison when he is sentenced on July 27.

Tucker was caught when a man noticed two individuals driving a truck on property behind his residence, which had been the target of several recent thefts, and called the cops. A Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the call.

The deputy recognized the driver as Tucker, who had outstanding arrest warrants, was a known convicted felon and had led deputies on a high-speed pursuit in recent months. Tucker, who was wearing a shoulder holster while seated in the front seat, however, didn’t know that and gave a false name to the deputy.

Resisting arrest

A gun rested inches away from Tucker’s right hand, the officer saw. When he asked him to exit his vehicle, Tucker cursed and refused to get out of the truck. The deputy, who had called for law enforcement back-up, gave numerous commands for Tucker to exit the truck. Tucker failed to comply. Not only that, he moved his hand toward his holster.

The deputy then deployed his taser. Tucker was handcuffed by another responding deputy and was combative during the arrest.

Officers found he was in illegal possession of a Charter Arms Bulldog .44 special revolver at the time of his arrest. He was on probation at the time of the arrest and has multiple convictions in Colquitt County, Georgia, Superior Court, including for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and burglary.
