Cocaine smuggled in blood transfusion bags seized in Colombia thanks to Dulce the dog

Drug traffickers have to be creative. Always one step ahead of the cops. They have to think outside the box in order to get their boxes filled with narcotics across borders. Authorities in Colombia discovered cocaine inside blood transfusion bags. Thanks to an alert drug sniffing dog named Dulce.

At the international airport Jose Maria Cordova in Rionegro, Colombia, near Medellin, Dulce was doing its job when it alerted its bosses to a carton box containing blood transfusion bags. The shipment was headed to Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Three bags contained 1.6 kilograms of cocaine. The coke had been mixed with a red pigment to make it look like blood. Though unsuccessful, authorities were impressed with the attempt. They immediately said this was not done by ordinary smugglers, but by organized crime groups.

Still, organized they may be, they are no match for Dulce the dog.
